A few more, expanded, details about our many Mount Vernon Amenities. (And this
is not all of them!):
Walking/Biking Paths
Paved Pathways are all over Mount Vernon. Walkers have the "Right of Way" but
our Pathways just fine for Jogging and Bike-Riding as well.

They lead around
our main Lake and down to our scenic Park overlooking Sarasota Bay. See the Chart.
And our Streets are safe for Walking, Jogging, Bike-Riding too. Speed is limited
to 15 MPH within Mount Vernon and the Streets are Privately owned by Mount Vernon
Condominium.
Swimming Pool (Heated and Cooled)
Our large Swimming Pool is heated and cooled (depending on the Season) by
underground Geo-Thermal Wells to keep the Water comfortable, year-round.

Many Swimming-Oriented Activities are always available: Water Aerobics, Lap
Swims (early Morning) are scheduled.
Library
Books, Books and more Books. Both large and normal Print. Lots of Magazines
and a huge assortment of Puzzles.

Our Library is also host to our many types
of Card-Games such as Bridge, Cribbage, Pinochle, Euchre and Poker.
Exercise Room
Outfitted with a wide variety of Fitness Equipment, our Exercise Room is the
perfect place to keep in shape.

But also keep in mind our Miles of
Walking/Jogging/Biking Pathways that wind around Mount Vernon. (See the
Pathway Chart in the Pathway section).
Billiards Room
A very active Billiards group uses our Billiards Room. Two Tables with recent
recovering of the Tables.

Whirlpool Room
Have a need to Unwind a bit? Our Hydrotherapy Room is perfect for relaxing
your Body. We have a Heat-Sauna Room too.

Tennis/Pickleball Courts
Mount Vernon has a very active Tennis and Pickle Ball Club. Two full-size
Tennis Courts are easily adapted over to the needs of Pickle Ball. A wide
variety of Player talents and skills.

Shuffleboard
First-Class Shuffleboard Courts with a very active Shuffleboard Club and Contests.

Bocce Ball
New to Mount Vernon is our Bocce Ball Court. First Class surface. Lots of fun.

Golf Putting Green
Great for your Golf Down-Time for practice.

Kayaks
Mount Vernon has a very active Kayak Club, and it's easy to Launch your Kayak
from our "Right on the Bay" Launching Ramp.

Kayaks are stored in our fenced Kayak Storage Yard which can hold 170 Kayaks.
If you don't have your own Kayak, Mount Vernon has Kayaks available for your
use along with the Paddles and other Gear.
This is "Kayak Heaven". Many, many places to paddle including back into the
five Canals in the adjoining Communities. With the exception of our Dredged
Canals and Main Channels out to the Bay (5'), the water around here is quite
shallow so you can always see the Bottom. Dolphins, Manatees and Sea Birds
await your Kayak cruise.

Right next to our Kayak Launching Ramp is our Washing-Station where you can
rinse off your Kayak after a cruise.

Boat Docks
Being a Water-Front Community, Mount Vernon has 70 Boat Docks that can handle
most Boats up to 30'. (Somewhat limited by the Water-Depth at your Dock which
is generally 2'-3' at the Dock).

This is a Mount Vernon Amenity that if you have a Boat, makes the move here more
than worthwhile. Our Docks, which belong to the Condo Association, are assigned
on a First-Come/First-Served Basis. Presently the Waiting List is rather short
but check to make sure that a Dock is available if you are considering a Home
here and you have a Boat.
You don't have to own a Canal Home to be assigned a Dock here. Lots of Condo
owners have Boats and there are Guest Parking Areas close by so you and your
Friends can get to your Boat.
The Application for a Dock Assignment is just $25. And that's it! Once the
Dock is assigned to you, it's yours to use, no further Costs or Fees. Our Boaters
usually join our Mount Vernon Boat Club which is $15/Year per Person, but other
than Club Dues and the Application Fee, there are no other Charges for keeping
your Boat at your assigned Dock here.

There, of course, are Rules for the use of our Docks. For example, you do have
to actually use your Boat. You can't just park it there and never use it.
Docks are only for active Boaters who live in Mount Vernon. And the Boat has to
be in the name of the Mount Vernon Home-Owner.
It's pretty simple to have a Boat Dock here in Mount Vernon and enjoy our Bay and
Gulf Waters.

If you are considering buying a Mount Vernon Home and need a Boat Dock, be sure
to contact our Dock Master for Availability and Conditions.
Boat, Trailer and RV Storage Yard
A separate Amenity from our Boat Docks, Mount Vernon has a large, fenced Storage
Yard for your Boat, Trailer or RV. Many of the Boats here in Mount Vernon have
a Boat Trailer and this is where it is stored while your Boat is in the Water,
and also when the Boat is out of the Water and on its Trailer.

We also have a number of RV-Type Trailers in the Yard too and the occasional
larger Self-Powered RV. There are limits on the Parking Space size so inquire
first to see if there is a space large enough for you, and the availability.
The Waiting-List is usually longer than for Docks in the Boat/RV Storage Yard.
We have 48 boat yard spaces with 10 Kayak spaces (Long-Term Kayak storage)
within our Boat/RV Storage Yard.
While waiting for a spot in our Boat/RV Storage Yard, we also have 11 spots
available for Short-Term storage in another area of Mount Vernon.
Like the Boat Dock Application Fee of $25, applying for a Storage Area is the
same Cost, and like the Boat Docks, once you are assigned your Space, it's yours
with no additional Charges. But, like the Boat Docks, you have to actually use
your Boat, RV Trailer or larger RV. It's not a long-term "Parking" spot and
is only for active Boaters and RV Owners.
It's mostly maintained by our Boat Club Members so that's another reason to join
our Boat Club. And yes, you can work on your Boat while it is in the Boatyard.
Direct Waterway Access
From our Mount Vernon Canal, it's a quick Cruise out to the IntraCoastal and the
Gulf. Our dredged (5') Channel has just had all of its Channel Markers replaced
so it's easy to see where to go. We do have lots of Sandbars and Shallows here
so it's normal for one of our Boaters to head out with you the first or second time
so you can see where to go.

However, most of the Channels are clearly marked and after setting up your GPS, you
won't have any problem heading out for a nice Cruise, Day or Evening.
NOTE: We are just a short distance from the Gulf so for an evening Cruise out
in the Gulf to watch our amazing Sunset (or even the occasional "Green Flash"),
it's easy and very comfortable to do.

Members of our Mount Vernon Boat Club are very helpful to our new Boaters.
It is certainly NOT, some stuffy Yacht Club. It's based on Fun and Exploring.
Two Anchorage Sandbar highlights that are close by are Jewfish Key and Sister Keys.
Jewfish Key is a private Island that has a huge Sandbar to the West. It's the
local weekend "Party" Sandbar spot. If it's a tad too loud for you, on the
way there is Sister Keys which is more Family oriented. A large, shallow
(2'-3') Sandbar with amazing underwater features. (Crabs, Oysters, Urchins, Rocks).

Lakes
Mount Vernon Lakes, look like Lakes. Dug out in the mid-70's to raise the
level of our Property, they attract a wide array of Birds and Fish.
Our Walking/Biking Paths surround them.

Bayfront Park and Sunset Pavillion
Like a quiet spot to sit and read, or just look at the Birds, Fish, Dolphins,
Clouds and Sarasota Bay? Our "Pelican Point Pavilion" is the perfect spot.

The Gulf Sunsets are incredible and our Pavilion Regulars are there most every
evening for chats and viewing the Bay as the Sun heads down.

Mount Vernon has outdoor Parties in our "Pelican Point Pavilion" and is the site for our
Annual Boat Club Picnic. "Clubhouse Rock", our House Rock-Band, plays there
several times during the Fall and Spring for a great outdoor Music and Dancing Show.

The small Lake near our Park attracts many types of Birds and the surrounding
Trees are the home for our nesting Ospreys and Blue Herons.

If you like Nature Photography, this is the spot to be, both for the Sunsets
and the Birds. The Mullet Fish constantly jumping out in the Bay are always
great to watch. And the evening Dolphins make a visit too.

The Mount Vernon Clubhouse
Our Mount Vernon Clubhouse is host to an amazing variety of Events here.
Aside from the Library, Billiards, Exercise Room and Spa, the Clubhouse
is the Tuesday Morning meeting spot for our "Dunkers" Get-Together, a
wide selection of Classes, Clubs and Interest Groups.

The rather famous "Mount Vernon Flea Market" is held throughout all the Rooms
in our Clubhouse and attracts hundreds of Flea-Market Shoppers looking for a
wide range of Goodies, all donated by Mount Vernon Residents.

our Drama Club Play, Garden Club Luncheons.
